ABOUT SAN DIEGO

Yes, San Diego is famous for its climate. What can we say? We live in paradise, where the mercury in December on average hits 65 and seldom dips below 45.

But there's a lot more to San Diego than sunshine.

San Diego County, approximately the size of Connecticut, offers just about everything: miles of beaches, trendy urban scenes, shopping meccas, rolling hills, 7,000-foot mountains, desert vistas, proximinity to Mexico, a symphony and a vibrant performing arts community, National League baseball, NFL football...

Do you golf? Try out one of San Diego County's 90 golf courses, including the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course, home to the San Diego Open. Or, there's surfing, sailing, SCUBA, windsailing, personal watercraft, kayaking, skiiing -- yes, in December.

Downtown San Diego, a jewel on San Diego Bay, is a quick ride from Lindbergh International Airport. You'll pass Little Italy, where you'll find the best pasta in the world, and see the Gaslamp Quarter with boutiques, trendy restaurants, and live music.

Within a five-minute drive of downtown San Diego, you can visit the world-famous San Diego Zoo set in the 1,200-acre Balboa Park, which also offers a dozen world-class museums, gardens, the Old Globe theatre, and the magnificant outdoor Spreckels Organ Pavilion.

Across the bay is Coronado and its world famous Hotel del Coronado. Heading south, you can visit Tijuana and Baja Mexico. Heading north, you can play at Legoland. Within an hour's drive are mountain communities like Julian, an old gold-mining town, and 7,000-foot high Mount Laguna. Two hours away is Anza Borrego State Park, the largest state park in California, with more than 500 miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas and numerous hiking trails.

There's more, but that gives you a taste. Check out the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau. You just have to come see it for yourself!
