Entry Rules and Regulations

GENERAL

The mission of the San Diego Christian Film Festival is to support contemporary Christian filmmakers who seek excellence and innovation to convey Christian themes and inspiring messages to the community through film.  Since submission of a film constitutes acceptance of these Entry Rules & Regulations (by filmmakers and their agents), please review this document carefully.

(We recommend you download a copy of this document and understand the portions applicable to your submission before proceeding to submit your film. You will be required to acknowledge that you have retained a copy of the rules and regulations as part of the registraton process.)

KEY DATES

December 15, 2009             - Submissions open

April 30, 2010 (postmark)    - Early Bird entry deadline, Features, Shorts & Music Videos

May 31, 2010 (postmark)     - Official entry deadline, All Features, Shorts & Music Videos completed in 2009 or 2010

June 30, 2010 (arrive by)    - Late Deadline 2010 Feature-length Works-In-Progress and Films completed after official deadline (Work-In-Progress designation accepted for Feature length works only)*

July 31, 2010                      - Without a box extended deadline. Online submissions through Without A Box only during the extended deadline.

Oct 1, 2010                         - Festival film slate and award winners will be announced.

December 27-30, 2010       - First Annual San Diego Christian Film Festival in San Diego

*If a Feature WIP film sent in by the Late Deadline is selected, the film must be completed by October 2010.

Submitted works that are not final cuts must be clearly marked “Work in Progress (WIP)” or “Rough Cut” with an indication of what will change or what is missing (e.g., temp sound, Avid output, animation, etc.).

*Replacement copies will NOT be accepted after September 10, 2010, unless solicited by the Festival.


ENTRY FEE

EARLY Deadline (04/30/2010 - postmark)

Shorts (less than 50 min): US$30;       
Features (50 min or longer): US$50;     
Music Videos (10 min): US$25

OFFICIAL Deadline (05/31/2010 - postmark)

Shorts (less than 50 min): US$35;       
Features (50 min or longer): US$55;     
Music Videos (10 min): US$25

LATE Deadline (06/30/10 - arrive by)

Shorts (less than 50 min): US$40
Feature (50 min or longer): US$60

Extended Deadline (7/31/10 - arrive by)

Shorts (less than 50 min): US$55
Feature (50 min or longer): US$75

Note: Entry fees are in US Dollars, per film and non-refundable. Read eligibility requirements carefully prior to submitting.

High School Students:
Fee waived for student entries if a photocopy of current and valid student ID card or letter from school verifying enrollment is submitted at time of entry. ONE fee waiver per student; entry fees for additional entries for same student will be at the standard rate.


ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for consideration:

(1)
Entrants must fully comply with these Entry Rules & Regulations, including deadline(s) and entry material requirements, selected film requirements and premiere requirements for specific SDCFF sections (see below).

(2)
Non-English language works must either have English subtitles or be accompanied by dialogue lists in both English and the original language.

(3) Submissions must have been completed after Jan 1, 2009.

 

HOW TO ENTER

Apply and prepay online at www.SDChrisitanFilmFestival.com and mail all required entry materials (see below).

 

ENTRY MATERIALS

All mailed entries must include the following:

(1)
Receipt for an online official SDCFF “Entry Form” properly completed and submitted.

(2) Copy of receipt for the entry fee(s) (or student ID photocopy), which is payable online by credit card: (American Express, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).

(3) TWO DVD copies of the work, formatted for multi-zone or for Zone 1 (North America), labeled with the work’s title, running time, director(s) name(s) and director’s contact phone number.

•DVD format, please double check that your DVD plays in its entirety on consumer DVD players. Also, please DO NOT PUT ADHESIVE LABELS on ANY disc (if burning yourself, use a permanent marker to write necessary info).

•Entries will not be accepted for preview on any other format.

NO DVD submissions will be returned.


MULTIPLE ENTRIES

Each entered work must be accompanied by its own entry form and by a separate DVD; please do not send a compilation DVD composed of works for separate entries.

 

INVITED WORKS

Festival judges select and the festival executive team invite all the films to be presented at SDCFF.  Invited filmmakers will be notified (by email, phone or fax via the information in the submitted entry form) around Oct 1, 2010. Most updates and correspondence will be sent via email.  Make sure to update us with any change of film status and/or contact information at submissions@SDChristianFilmFestival.com.   Festival may rescind invitations if the film’s eligibility status changes. 


IF YOUR WORK IS SELECTED

You must fulfill the following requirements by the date(s) designated by the Festival upon invitation:

(1) You will be required to execute a release and agreement wherein you (i) accept responsibility for obtaining any and all clearances necessary to exhibit your film at the First Annual San Diego Christian Film Festival (“SDCFF”) (ii) warrant that you have the rights necessary to exhibit your film at SDCFF (iii) indemnify and hold harmless San Diego Christian Film Festival and Glass Sea Productions LLC and its affiliates against any claim arising out of exhibition of your film at SDCFF.

(2) You will be responsible for delivery of the exhibition copy of the invited work in one of the Exhibition Formats specified below to the address designated by the Festival.  We recommend shipment via courier in order to permit the tracking of your entry once it leaves your hands.

•We exhibit via computers for digital projection.
•Quicktime files, MOV files, MiniDV and HDCAM formats will ONLY will be accepted.
•Work originally in one of the above formats must be provided with the highest resolution possible in that format.
•Only high resolution submissions and films shown in the festival will be returned. NO DVD submissions will be returned

 (3) You will provide a properly completed and signed official SDCFF “Film Information Form” including all press and publication assets as specified in the “Materials Checklist.”

FESTIVAL SECTIONS

Works invited to participate in the SDCFF will be shown in the section the Festival executive team determines most appropriate in their sole discretion.

 

IN COMPETITION:

U.S. FEATURE FILM

Any narrative work of fiction with a running time of at least 50 minutes.

Eligible for:

Best U.S. Feature

Emerging U.S. Feature Filmmaker (for 1st and 2nd time feature directors)

 

U.S. ANIMATED FEATURE FILM

Any animated narrative work of fiction with a running time of at least 50 minutes.

Eligible for:

Best U.S. Animated Feature

Emerging U.S. Animated Feature Filmmaker (for 1st and 2nd time feature directors)


U.S. DOCUMENTARY FILM

Any non-fiction film with a running time of at least 50 minutes; NOT including entirely scripted or improvised fictionalizations of actual events.

Eligible for:

Best U.S. Documentary

Emerging U.S. Documentary Filmmaker (for 1st and 2nd time feature directors)


INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM

Any narrative work of fiction with a running time of at least 50 minutes.

Eligible for:

Best International Feature

Emerging International Feature Filmmaker (for 1st and 2nd time feature directors).


INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED FEATURE FILM

Any animated narrative work of fiction with a running time of at least 50 minutes.

Eligible for:

Best International Animated Feature

Emerging International Animated Feature Filmmaker (for 1st and 2nd time feature directors).


INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM

Any non-fiction film with a running time of at least 50 minutes; NOT including entirely scripted or improvised fictionalizations of actual events.

Eligible for:

Best International Documentary Feature

Emerging International Documentary Filmmaker (for 1st and 2nd time feature directors)


U.S. SHORT FILM

Any narrative or documentary film of U.S. origin with a running time of 49 minutes or less.

Eligible for:

Best U.S. Short

Best U.S. Youth Short*
 

U.S. ANIMATED SHORT FILM

Any animated narrative film of U.S. origin with a running time of 49 minutes or less.

Eligible for:

Best U.S. Animated Short

Best U.S. Youth Animated Short*


INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM

Any narrative or documentary film of International origin with a running time of 49 minutes or less.

Eligible for:

Best International Short

Best International Youth Short*


INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED SHORT FILM

Any animated narrative film of International origin with a running time of 49 minutes or less.

Eligible for:

Best International Animated Short

Best Youth International Animated Short*

NOTE:  Shorts will play either in a shorts program or before a feature film.

 
MUSIC VIDEO (10 minutes or less)

Eligible for:

Best Music Video

Best Youth Music Video*

NOTE:  Music Videos will play either in a shorts program or before a feature film.

*YOUTH FILMS - Open to young filmmakers who are High School Students ONLY.  Submit your film for one of the "youth" categories above (Youth Best Narrative Short, Youth Best Documentary Short, Youth Best Animated Short OR Youth Best Music Video).  Form must be filled out and signed by a parent or legal guardian and a copy of your student ID attached.  No exceptions.  BE SURE TO E-MAIL info@SDChristianFilmFestival.com for a fee waiver before submitting via Without-A-Box.  Parents, be sure to complete a Youth Consent Form and mail with the DVD's,

AWARDS

•This being the first year for SDCFF, cash awards and in-kind services and products will be based upon the level of sponsorships and entry fees received.  SDCFF will aggressively begin its sponsorship campaign December 2009 to build the amount of cash awards to a generous level.

•Unless otherwise agreed to by the Festival executive team in writing, awards will be given to the winning film director (as identified in the Film Information Form) and will be fulfilled at the SDCFF Gala Awards Reception, December 26, 2010 in San Diego.  Those winners unable to attend will be mailed their award 2-3 weeks after the Festival.

•Award eligibility is subject to any restrictions or conditions imposed by applicable laws and regulations (international, federal, state or otherwise), and the award recipient is responsible for all applicable taxes, customs, tariffs, insurance and similar charges or costs (if any).
 

2010 Awards listed in the above Festival sections are subject to change.
